The Dodge Dart Picks up a Fifth Door and Dons a New Name for the Chinese Market
Posted on November 26, 2013
Dart has hit the scene with quite a bit of force here in
Mississauga, ON. From its flashy design to its generous fuel
economy figures, the compact has been winning over the critics since it first
joined the new
Dodge lineup over a year ago.
As much as we enjoy this compact at Team Chrysler
Jeep Dodge, we realize that it would be selfish to keep it all to ourselves.
That's why we're psyched to hear that the Dart has gone global. In fact, the
model hit the Chinese market, but not without a few changes to its
The most notable departure is that the Chinese Dodge
Dart isn't a Dodge at all. It actually wears the FIAT badge in the East.
However, given that FIAT and Dodge fall under the same Chrysler umbrella, they
tend to swap and share underpinnings on the regular. Therefore, it isn't out of
the ordinary for Chrysler to release the same model under two different marques
in divergent markets.
The next big addition to the FIAT Viaggio (aka
Dodge Dart) is that it picked up a fifth door on its way to China. Based on the
images we've seen, the compact is wearing it quite well, too. We're reaching a
bit here, but we have heard rumors in the past about Dodge releasing a hatch
counterpart. If the Viaggio tears it up in Asia like we think it will, perhaps
we'll eventually get that five-door in Canada.
Time will tell, and so will our blog once we get more
details. While you wait for updates, why not stop into our dealership to check
out the sporty Dart sedan today?
